Your guide to the redundancy process

When faced with making a staffing reduction, you must ensure you treat your employees fairly and act in accordance with their contractual and statutory employment rights. This includes making sure that you consult with individuals, follow the necessary policy and procedures and ensure you adhere to appropriate timescales. If not, then the employees in question could claim unfair dismissal.

You must ensure a fair and objective process when selecting job roles to make redundant. Throughout the process, remember that communication is key. Having determined the need for redundancies and identified the criteria for selection, it is good practice to ensure regular and open communication.
